Alex Baker is a fine art and travel photographer focusing mainly on real and imagined landscapes that create a haunting mood of mythic times and places. Alex and his wife, artist Suzette Martin, live and work at the Eclipse Mill Artist Residency in North Adams, MA

Alex spent 22 years as an actor, set and lighting designer, technical director, and stage manager in the theater.

In the ‘80s tech boom, he transferred his technical theater skills to Information Technology consulting in software development, computer network design and project management. He eventually retired as an Associate Director from the global financial services firm, Ernst & Young, at the end of 2009.

All the while, he has been a photographer. While working in show business, Alex took classes in photography and honed his craft. He did portraiture and portfolios for actors and models, performance photography for the theater, dance, and musicians plus landscape and street photography. Over time, Alex’s work has evolved primarily into fine art landscape based images with some architectural, travel and street photography.

Alex studied acting in New York and Los Angeles with three of America’s greatest acting teachers representing the three primary branches of America acting technique: John Leyne (the Method), Viola Spolin (Improvisation) and Susan Anspach (Meisner technique). Everything since has been informed by what he learned about human behavior as an actor. He attended the University of North Carolina, Theater Arts BFA program but left early to work professionally. Twenty-two years later, he graduated from Thomas Edison State University with a BA in Theater Arts just because. Alex can still be seen in small roles in some pretty bad movies on cable, DVD or VHS tapes in attics and basements.
