Schooner, The Voyage of the Mercantile
Say It's spring. Say, you're 22 years old and you have this last summer before you have to get serious about next steps. You'd heard about this job crewing on a 100 year old schooner on the coast of Maine. You'd always loved sailing, but you sure weren't a "real" sailor. You really want to work outdoors, not cooped up in some building. The pay isn't that great, but you really want to do something romantic and beautiful before you have to get serious about growing up . . If you have the time, just run the slide show and make up your version of the story of that summer and pick which one of the crew you want to be in your story.
This gallery is a photo essay of images of the excellent crew of the schooner, Mercantile, of Maine Windjammer Cruises (mainewindjammercruises.com) shot while on a 5 day sail in Penobscot Bay in Maine. Captain Andy, First Mate Zach, Ship's Cook, Sarah and the crew of Becky, Sally and Jerika were amazingly hard working, companionable, competent young people. They were each exceptional and unique. The experience of sailing on a 97 year old schooner was truly interesting and enjoyable, but it was greatly enhanced by Andy and his terrific crew. This is a collection of moments and images of that team: Andy, Zach, Sarah, Becky, Sally and Jerika. This is the story in pictures of what they do. I wish them all the very best. I thank them for this wonderful five days and dedicate this work to them.
